Disciple Bible Study
DISCIPLE is a small-group approach to Bible study that prioritizes “transformation not information,” study and preparation. Over thirty-four weeks, participants become familiar with the Scriptures, the covenant we have with God, and one another. Video, theme words and verses, and historical context set the tone for the biblical story at each session.
For the 2011-2012 year, we offer, to those who have at some previous time completed DISCIPLE I, the next course in the series: DISCIPLE II: “Into the Word, Into the World.” This 32-week study concentrates on the related books of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts, reinforcing the essential task of keeping Bible study related to daily living, connecting our inner and outer lives, and encouraging the practice of spiritual disciplines arising from Scripture to transform us for the better. Depending upon what works for those interested, the group may meet on Monday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Seasoned guides Harvey and Priscilla Woodmansee, who led DISCIPLE I this past year, have graciously offered to guide the course.

Wednesday Bible Study
“Bread for the Road”
Many of us miss the weekly rhythm of our come-when-you-can weekly Bible study, “Bread for the Road.” We are about to begin again for fall! Led by our pastor, this study is offered both mornings and evenings on Wednesdays; you may choose between them or alternate between the two as your schedule allows.
This fall, at present, we are in "Untraveled Waters: A Journey through the Greatest Bible Stories You Never Heard" Designed and led by our Pastor, Untraveled Waters will offer an up-close, thoughtful view of some Bible stories that get very little attention (or none at all) in our study and worship life, but are very much worth the “trip,” nonetheless! This year, we can expect to encounter:
the first sermon ever recorded to have bored a man to death
a talkative donkey and a generous fish
the evidence that Jesus may not have had a green thumb
the first known streaker, according to Mark
Along the way, we’ll consider why the Bible is at the same time easy and quite challenging to read, and how it shapes our lives as individual Christians and as a community of believers. We’ll discuss ‘liberal’ and ‘fundamentalist’ perspectives, and try to find firm footing on which to stand and encounter the Living Word. Biblical novices and skeptics are more than welcome!
Come be with us at 10 a.m. or at 6:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. (Note: child care is available for the evening study only; if you would need it during the a.m. study, please let Dave know.) We’ll spend about an hour and a quarter together each week. BYOB (bring your own Bible!) – but no prior experience of scriptural study is necessary. Expect an informal but enriching experience! With any questions, call Rev. Dave at 992-3030.
We hope you will find a small group that suits and enhances your life!
